Exploratory curricula allow youth to experience topics beyond the core subjects. It is “an approach to teaching and training that encourages the learner to explore and experiment to uncover relationships.


Allowing youth to inquire and discover answers for themselves often leads to them remembering and applying the learning at a later date and to similar tasks.


Experiential Learning is the process of learning by doing. We know children learn by doing, and engaging students in hands-on experiences and reflection greatly impact learning outcomes.

We offer engaging and innovative hands-on activities that allow participants to EXPLORE, DISCOVER & EXPERIENCE utilizing awe-inspiring subject matter based on real-world scenarios and cutting-edge research.

The mission of our Center for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CASTEM) is to encourage West Virginia’s youth to pursue careers in STEM fields and inspire them to become future engineers, scientists, researchers, teachers, and leaders.
